Ahead of next year presidential election, the governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike has beat his Delta State counterpart, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to emerged as the vice presidential candidate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who last week, emerged as the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic (PDP).
A committee set up by the leadership of Party, to pick Atiku Abubakar’s running mate, disclosed that Wike defeated floored Okowa, by a whopping 16-3 votes and Okowa only got 3 votes.
Observers believe that the Delta State Governor would have been the natural fit for the job, but it was gathered that the obstacle he has is that his former godfather, James Ibori, mounted a serious opposition and resistance to Atiku picking Okowa because his former political son Okowa hijacked the PDP Delta State Structure from him.
Both Atiku and Ibori, belong to the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), a political bloc within the PDP.
