Three Fleeing IPOB Activists Still on Police Wanted List

Three activists of the Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB) who were formally indicted between 2011 and 2015 have remain on police wanted list.

The IPOB activists, Leonard Gozie (aka Fireman), Franklin Nnawane(aka No Bagger) and Agbo Romanus also known in security circle as “German Bullet”  were arrested in Borno and  Abia  states in 2011, charged to court but later freed in 2014  because of their deteriorating health condition and also on the premise that they renounce membership of the pro- Biafra group which is designated by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a terrorist group.

According to security reports, the trio belong to a special IPOB cell in Abia state. Two of the cell members, Leonard Gozie and Franklin Nnawane were arrested in Umuahia, the Abia state capital in 2012 while the third member, Agbo Romanus was arrested in Maiduguri, Borno state in 2011.

According to police sources, Agbo Romanus was initially charged to court in Borno state. His case was however transferred to Abia state for a continuation of the trial after he had spent nearly a year in prison custody.

Agbo, Nnawane and Gozie were charged alongside dozens other pro- Biafra agitators for unlawful assembly and membership of a terrorist group. They had spent nearly two years in prison custody before they were released on health ground in 2014. They were also mandated to renounce membership of IPOB; a condition which they were alleged to have violated in 2015.  

It was gathered that Agbo, Gozie and Nnawane escaped arrest during a police raid on IPOB assembly on August 17, 2015 and immediately went into hiding.

A recent police bulletin said the three men have been declared wanted.
