Against the background of spate of killings in the South East region, governors of the zone have declared that the criminality in the area cannot be linked to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

However, the governors said that anybody with evidence linking the IPOB leader to the killings should come up with them.

THISDAY reports that arising from a prolonged meeting in Enugu Thursday, chairman of the Southeast governors forum and Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma said that the perpetrators of the insecurity in the region and their sponsors were criminals and should not be seen as legitimate agitators, saying that upon arrest, “such criminals should be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.”

He said that the forum has firmly resolved to fight insecurity decisively in the region individually and collectively, in partnership with the federal government and other Stakeholders.

The forum also commended the security agencies for their cooperation thus far while also encouraging them not to relent in their efforts to deal with insecurity in the region.

It further resolved to hold the security and economic summit on a date to be announced soon.

The meeting, which is the first since the May 29 inauguration, had all five governors including Enugu State, Peter Mbah; Anambra, Charles Soludo; Imo, Hope Uzodinma; Abia, Alex Oti and Ebonyi, Francis Nwifuru, in attendance.
