0 21

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will consider a request for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Kanu is currently standing trial for treason and terrorism. The president disclosed that such a demand “is quite heavy” but he will consider it nevertheless.

President Buhari gave the assurance Friday, in Aso Rock Abuja, when a group of Igbo leaders led by a former First Republic Minister of Aviation and Parliamentarian, Mbazulike Amaechi met with him.

The leaders had pleaded with President Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu as such gesture would address some rising issues in the region especially the issue of insecurity.

Chief Amaechi, 93, assured the president that, upon release, Nnamdi Kanu would not make any other derogatory comment about the nation. He maintained that, he can control Nnamdi Kanu because of his position as an Igbo leader.
