President buhari orders immediate return of repatriated artefacts to Obs of Benin palace

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Nigerian High Commissioner to Britain to immediately return some of Benin artworks recently repatriated from Jesus College, Cambridge and University of Aberdeen, Scotland to the palace of Oba of Benin.

The presidential directive to return the highly rated Benin antiquities to the ancient palace of the Oba of Benin, Town Crier News gathered, is contained in a statement by the secretary of Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor.

According to the statement, the handing over of the returned artifacts would take place at the Oba’s place on 13th December 2021, by 11 am.

The statement explained that the handing over ceremony would be used to mark the 5th anniversary celebration of Oba Ewaure II, Oba of Benin on his ascension to the throne of his forebears.

The disclosed that the celebration was shifted in honor of late Captain Wells Idahosa Okunbo.
