Pregnant Woman Killed by Hippopotamus in Makurdi

Tragedy struck in Makurdi as a wild hippopotamus has allegedly killed a pregnant woman.

The incident as gathered, occured along the old bridge crossing point of River Benue on Tuesday.

An eyewitness account disclosed that the victim went for the island with other traders to buy vegetables for commercial purposes when she was attacked at the shore of the river.

Although the identity of the woman was not clear but it was learnt that the incident happened when she and others were being ferried in an engine boat, which developed a fault and they were transferred to a wooden one.

The attacked boat was broken into pieces with the victim drowned, it was learnt.

However, a search party was instituted and her body was recovered the following day (Wednesday.)

When contacted, the Benue Police Public Relations Officer,  SP Sewuese Anene, said she was yet to get the information but promised to get to our reporter.
