Police SP Shoot Inspector for Allegedly Abandoning Duty Post in Rivers

A Superintendent of Police (SP) identified as Obidike Chukwudi of the 9th Mile Police Station in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has reportedly opened fire on a fellow Inspector during an altercation within the police station.
Although the identity of the deceased Inspector has not been revealed, but Town Crier News learnt that he was previously held in police custody by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for abandoning his duty post, which angered his boss.
According to local news reports, the incident occurred on Monday, March 13, 2023, during a disagreement inside the cell. The DPO allegedly shot the Inspector out of anger, breaking Nigeria Police Force order 237, which governs and stipulates how police officers should handle or make use of their guns. The DPO’s actions are expected to attract severe consequences.
A police source revealed that the incident is regarded as attempted murder, while another informant within the police unit explained that shooting is not part of the punishment for a defaulted police officer.
The incident, as gathered, has sparked outrage and calls for authorities to investigate the matter as police officers also have the right to life.
