In order to fast track development in Delta North Senatorial district of Delta State, the Traditional Rulers of Owa Kingdom, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II; and the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge (SAN) have emphasized the need for unity, corporation and greater understanding among royal traditional rulers in the region.
The call was made in Owa Oyibo, when the Asagba of Asaba, Prof Epiphany Azinge SAN paid a historic visit to the Owa Royal Place in Ika North East Local Government Area.
Speaking, Obi Efeizomor II noted that such collaboration will not only bring about greater unity and understanding among Delta North Royal Fathers in the region but would also fast track rapid social economic and political development and growth of Anioma Nation.
The Owa royal father, who traced the historical and cultural ties between the people of Owa kingdom and Asaba urged the traditional rulers to be their brothers keepers.
He enjoined the Asagba to adopt diplomacy, wisdom and the fear of God in handling the affairs of his kingdom stressing that he should endeavor to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness which is key to answered prayers.
Obi Efeizomor II, said he was happy for the visit of the Asagba and prayed God to grant the Asaba monarch peaceful and prosperous reign emphasizing that his reign would usher in more development to the capital city of Asaba.
On his part, the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Epiphany Azinge said the visit was historical, being his first major engagement outside his domain since his ascension to the throne of his forebears, adding it was meant to congratulate the Owa monarch on his 87th birthday anniversary and appreciate him for his supportive role during his coronation as well as condole with him over the passing on of one of his sons.
Professor Azinge advocated for constitutional roles for traditional rulers stressing that findings had shown that over 80 percent of disputes are being resolved by traditional rulers hence the increasing need for constitutionally guaranteed roles for Royal Fathers.
The Asagba also underscored the need for unity and formidable body of traditional rulers at the senatorial district level, the state and national level to enhance a stronger voice on issues of common interest to the people.
With the Obi of Owa to receive the Asagba were the traditional rulers of Umunede, Ubulu-Unor and Ukala as well as the Obi-in-Council while the Asagba was accompanied on the visit by members of his cabinet including the Odogwu of Asaba , Chief Odueh among others.
