Four Killed, Several Injured as Trees Fall  Inside Edo Market

Tragedy was said to have occured at the popular Jattu Market in Etsako Local Government Area of Edo State following the death of four persons while several were injured as trees fell inside due to a heavy downpour on Monday morning.

The Chairman of the council, Mr. Marvellous Zibiri confirmed the death of the persons  while speaking to newsmen at the market.

Zubiri said: “At about 8:am and 9:am, I got a call from my Vice Chairman and  the Supervisory Council for Environment about the incident that happen at the Jattu market.

“During the rainfall trees around the market fell symoustaneosly while people took cover thereby killing four person’s and many injured.

“So far, we have been able to recover four dead bodies and we have taken them to the mortuary while those who sustain injuries are at the hospital responsible to treatment.”

The council chairman added that rescue operation is still ongoing at the scene as the trees are being sawn down in pieces to confirmed if there are other bodies under.

He described the incident as tradegy and sympathise with families who lost their love ones at the market.

Zubiri, however, appealed to residents of the local government to stay indoor whenever it rain.
