Ex-Rangers International Player, Stanley Okoronkwo Dies at 73

He was a darling of football lovers of the 70’s and early 80’s.
The first time the name came to limelight was through a banner headline on the sports page of the then East Central State Newspaper Daily Star in the 1970s.
It was a football.atch between Enugu Rangers and Vasco Da Gama which ended 1-1.
Stanley Okoronkwo, nick named Englishman because of the immaculate white colour of Rangers players which made him inimitable including his dribbling style that made him exceptional in the turf.
Okoronkwo retired as a footballer and businessman. He was a native of Atani Village, Ugwu Aro in Arochukwu, now Abia State.
He attended St. Paul School, Jos; Aba Trade Centre and the National School of Salesmanship, England.
His football career started at Highlander FC, Jos in 1970. He later played for Vasco Dagama and Rangers International FC both of Enugu.
His style of play earned him the alias ‘don dirty’. During his career as a footballer, he won the African Winners Cup, two FA cups, three national league titles amongst other accolades.
After his playing career, he rose to the position of Manager, Rangers International and Vice Chairman of its former players association. He is married to Ifeoma and blessed with children
Okoronkwo who was buried today, August 8, died on June 4, 2024. He was aged 73.
