Land grabbing and the many evils associated with it have become a common phenomenon in Nigeria, especially, in the southern part of the country.
Here in Edo state, some communities are embroided in constant violence because of issues relating to land grabbing while some persons have suffered losses after their lands have been taken away from them.
Those who chose to resist the evil of land grabbing are either maimed or killed.
This is the fate of one young man, Aigbiremon Asabolopia Lucky who inherited a large parcel of land from his late father in Okalo in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to a family sources, his late father bought the land from the traditional ruler of Okalo many years back but after the demise of both men, the new traditional ruler attempted to take over the large parcel of land from the young man.
Lucky resisted, but he was intimidated, arrested and tortured. “There were serious threats to eliminate him ” , the family sources said.
The said Lucky’s life has been a misery ever since then as he was constantly trailed by cult boys and native doctors loyal to the traditional ruler.
“Despite having escaped from the community, Lucky’s life continues to be in danger as the police have failed to give him protection”, the family further added.
