The European Union’s Special Representative for the Sahel, Joa`o Gomes Cravinho, has begged the Burkina Faso Government for a second chance for a win-win partnership.
Cravinho, Towncriernews gathered made the pleading when he spoke to the Media in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso on May 13, 2025 when he visited.
He said the European Union wants a new approach with Burkina Faso: one of maintaining dialogue with the authorities and a win-win partnership between the two parties.
Cravinho who first visited Ouagadougou, made a repeated visit in May.
During his stay, he met with Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, the Minister of Economy, Aboubacar Nacannabo and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeam Marie Karamoko Traore.
During the visit, João Gomes Cravinho said he had enriching discussions with the three Burkinabe figures.
“It’s very important to return to Ouagadougou,” he said, adding that these meetings allow for “building a more in-depth dialogue.”
According to him, a win-win partnership is one of the shared expectations between Europe and Burkina Faso, adding that he is especially attentive to the Burkinabe authorities to take their expectations into account.
In this case, he said, the European Union is supporting the authorities in carrying out numerous projects for the benefit of the population. “We have a good understanding of the Burkina Faso government’s objectives,” he said, adding that he invited the Burkinabe side “to see the European Union as a friend.”
From 2021 to 2024, the European Union has invested €300 million, or 200 billion CFA francs, in the form of grants. “We are continuing at the same pace,” maintains the special representative, who points to the ongoing construction of 60 classrooms for internally displaced students.
In addition, he continued, as part of a financing agreement, the European Union promised Burkina Faso the sum of 80 million euros, or more than 52 billion CFA francs.
Mr. Cravinho made it clear that their cooperation is adapted to the realities of the moment and that it is hand in hand that they will be able to work for the well-being of the population. For him, there is no reason to say that we should rest.
For me: BURKINA FASO should remain the way they are, because we have proven to be better and prosperous without the EU peanuts. They were in support of France; one of her top members in her relentless attempts to destabilize the country and never criticized the terrørist groups attacking innocent citizens.
