The member, representing Oredo federal constituency, Mr. Esosa Iyawe has hailed his constituents for the victory at the election petition tribunal which affirmed him winner of the February 25, 2023 Presidential/National Assembly elections
Candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democrats Party (PDP) after losing the election had gone to court to challenge Iyawe’s victory at the tribunal.
However on Friday, the tribunal in a unanimous judgement, affirmed Iyawe as winner of the election.
Expressing his gratitude for the victory, Iyawe, an engineer by profession, thanked all the people of Oredo federal constituency for coming out in their large numbers to vote for him which was affirmed by the election petition tribunal.
In a statement personally endorsed by him and made available to Journalists in Benin, Iyawe said: “Today, I stand before you with all humility to express my heartfelt appreciation for my victory at the Tribunal to God almighty, my legal team, my party chairman and other executive members, my supporters, the good people of Oredo Federal Constituency, and my family members. It is a victory well deserved.”
He also said, “For my distinguished opposition party members, although we may often find ourselves on opposite sides of the aisle, I want to acknowledge your dedication and the passion you bring to your role as politicians.
“Democracy thrives when there is a robust exchange of ideas, and your unwavering commitment to your principles is a testament to the strength of our democratic institutions.
“Permit me to say that in our increasingly polarized political landscape, it is essential that we recognise and celebrate each other. Today, I have the privilege to do just that.
“Now the Tribunal has decided, let us put politics of bitterness aside, come together and work for the betterment of Oredo Federal Constituency.
“In every contest there must be a victor. We may continue to hold differing views, let us never forget that our shared commitment to the welfare of our citizens unites us in our larger purpose.”
Iyawe who reiterated his humility to all the people of Oredo, noted that he is open to everyone who is ready to sail the ship of good governance, adding that there was a lot to be done for the people.
