The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, and members of the 8th Assembly have assured the Clerk and staff of the House of Assembly of the importance of the welfare and capacity building of the workforce.
Agbebaku stated this during an interactive session with all the staff of the assembly in attendance.
The Speaker explained that there is a need for all staff to be punctual and dedicated to work, maintaining that he is planning for training and retraining of staff.
He reassured staff that there will be no witch Hunt of any staff stressing that it would not be business as usual.
Responding to questions and comments the speaker promised to look into the various issues raised, promising they would all be addressed after proper consultation with other lawmakers and the Clerk.
He disclosed that plans were on to digitalize the State House of Assembly in tune with global best practices.
Earlier, Chairman Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) Edo state House of Assembly chapter, Alhaji Farouq Umar, and other staff had raised issues including Staff welfare, payment of claims to bereaved families of staff, dividends of cooperators, the staff clinic and digitization as well as staff training.
The PASAN chairman urged staff to be at their duty post to avoid unnecessary battles and appealed to the leadership of the House to shun the victimization of Staff.
On his part, the clerk of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Yahaya Audu Omogbai thanked the Speaker and members for the interactive session, praying for the fulfillment of promises made.
Omogbai assured of the cooperation of staff, especially with the assurance of better welfare packages and training are in the offing.
Lawmakers present at the interactive session include the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Maria Edeko; Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian; Destiny Enabulele, Kaycee Osamwonyi, Edosa Osaro, Andrew Uzamere, Chief of Staff to the speaker, Odion Daniel Iruobe.
