Edo Assembly Speaker Inaugurates C’ttee on Public Accounts, Works, and Public Utilities

The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku has Inaugurated two more house standing committees with a charge to them to ensure they carry out their duties for the benefit of the state.

Agbebaku who gave the charge while inaugurating the Committees said they were in the House to give the people laws that would benefit them, as well as carry out oversight functions.

On their part, the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Osamwonyi Atu called for synergy with MDAs under the Committee.

Atu thanked the Accountant General and Auditor General of the State as well as the Accountant General of local government for attending the brief event, stressing that another time would be created for more engagement.

Members of the committee include Hon Destiny Enabulele, Hon Natasha Osawaru, Hon Kingsley Ugabi, and Hon Jonathan Ibhamawu.

Inaugurating the House Committee on Works and Public Utilities, Speaker Agbebaku urged the committee to work within its framework. 

He expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Mr Ethan Uzamere for attending the event.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Committee, Bright Iyamu said the committee is charged with the responsibility of ensuring workable utilities in the state.

Also lending his voice, a member of the Committee, Donald Okogbe emphasized that another important role of the committee is to fashion out avenues to increase revenue for the state as the committee would also be a bridge between Government and the people.

In his response, the Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Mr Ethan Uzamere said on assumption of duties at the ministry, he discovered the lack of necessary laws and policies for the ministry.

He explained that the issue of revenue generation is an important area of action, stressing that there is a need for legislative backing to help in the activities of the ministry.

Other members of the committee are  Osamwonyi Atu, Andrew Uzamere, Eigbiremonlen Fada, Hon Okogbe Donald.
