The Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, Dr Asue Ighodalo on Tuesday said his administration will make Uhuwonde Local Government Area food basket of the Nigeria, promising to complete all ongoing road projects in the area to ensure that farmers will be able to evacuate their farm produce to the city.
He also promised to revive the moribund water facility in Ehor to provide drinking water for the agrarian community if he wins the governorship polls in the state.
Ighodalo, who made these commitments at Ehor, the headquarters of Uhunmwode Local Government Council during his Ward-to Ward campaigns to Ward 1 Ehor, Ward 2 Ihue ,Ward 3 Igieduma and Ward 4 Urhue, said his government will bring food processing companies to the agrarian community that will in turn employ the teaming jobless youths.
He decried, the high cost of living in Nigeria and urged the people to vote against All Progressives Congress (APC) which has brought so much hardship in the country because of its bad economic policies.
He said. “We have come to keep promise,we have come to continue the good work of the governor and the ones he couldn’t finish,we will complete. Today ,Uhnwode is the food basket of Edo State. But ,we will make Uhuwonde the food basket of Nigeria.
“This Local Government is the highest producers of fruits in Nigeria. Why is that our youths are jobless,we are going to bring companies that will be processing fruits here to make sure that our youths are employed. We are here to work for our people. We value you. The reason some of our youths are involved in crime is because of joblessness. Edo State must prosper by all means. Let not see light and decide to follow darkness.
“You people should trust us, myself and Osarodion, whatever that has not been completed,we will complete it . I saw a water tank that is not working,we will fix it to make sure that it is working.”
Also, speaking at Ward 7 and 8 Isi North and South, Ighodalo said the major problem of the community is insecurity, which he said has made it impossible for farmers to go to farm and promised to improve on security. He also identified electricity as another problem in most of the communities and vowed to reconnect the affected communities to the national grid.
On his part, the deputy governorship candidate, Mr. sarodion Ogie, said they want to be in government to improve on the lives of Edo people, adding. “Whatever we are going to do to improve on your lives ,we will do. The road between Ihue and Urhue will be completed. You cannot spend all your time in the farm and will not see the road to evacuate your produce”
