The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto headed by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah appeared to be under siege as gunmen early Wednesday reportedly broke into one of the parishes in Katsina and abducted two priests.
The incident was said to have occurred at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, Kafur local government area of Katsina state.
The gunmen were said to have gained entry into the Church by breaking the Rectory of the before taking away the two priests.
The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto covers four stated namely, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States.
Confirming the ugly incident Wednesday morning, the Director, Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Rev. Fr. Christopher Omotosho, described the incident as a drive on the catholic Diocese of Sokoto.
His words: “The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto is under attack and no information has been gotten as to the whereabouts of the abductees.”
According to him, “As at midnight of today, 25th May, 2022, gunmen broke into the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, Kafur LGA of Katsina State.
“The parish priest and his assistant Rev. Frs. Stephen Ojapa, MSP, and Oliver Okpara and two boys in the house were kidnapped.”
