Nigeria’s Women Premier League champions Edo Queens,Friday evening finished as the fourth best team in the 2024 CAF Women Champions League after losing the third place match in the tournament in Casablanca, Morocco 4-3 to FC Masar in a shootout

The Nigeria’s pallbearers at the Continental showpiece had managed to sustain the tempo, absorbing all that the Egyptian champions had thrown at them throughout the 90 minutes of regulation period in a goalless situation before the shootout ensued

Edo Queens, Saturday evening produced an incredible performance, coming from behind to beat African champions Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the final Group B game of the CAF Women Champions League to qualify for the Semifinals of the tournament in Casablanca, Morocco for the first time.

Nigeria’s representatives’ progress was hindered by TP Mazembe of DR Congo in the semifinals clash on Tuesday in a dramatic 3-1 setback for the Benin girls.

In a post match interview,the Head coach of Edo Queens highlighted the positives of the tournament and as well pointed out areas his team missed the track.

“We have learnt our lessons. We started very well but went down without scoring goals at the critical stage of the tournament
We are going back to the drawing board to work on our deficiency. I am not happy that we were not scoring.. We learnt a lot and next time I am sure we will do better.
This is our first time. The teams and tournament not too much for us.jusf that our plans did not work. Next time we are going to be better”. Adukwu said

The Nigeria Women Premier League champions, Edo Queens began the tournament in Morocco with a 3-0 victory over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia with Emem Essien , Folashade Ijamilusi and Goodness Osigwe scoring for the Queens. They settled for a goalless draw in their second match with Masar FC of Egypt before the final group game in which they demystified the defending champions 2-1.
