ARISE TV news anchor, Rufai Oseni has told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to apologise to Nigerians for misleading them in 2012 over his claims on fuel Subsidy during the regime of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
In 2012, Tinubu had protested Jonathan’s removal of petrol subsidy, describing it as a “scam”.
In a broadcast titled “Removal of oil subsidy – President Jonathan breaks social contract with the people” publication dated Wednesday, January 11, 2012, and an edition of The Nation newspaper, revealed that Tinubu made the statement in reaction to the removal of fuel subsidies by the Jonathan-led government.
He (Tinubu) described the subsidy removal by the then PDP-led government as “Jonathan tax.”
However, the same Tinubu upon assumption of office on May 29, totally removed the same fuel subsidy he described as scam and Jonathan tax.
Reacting to Tinubu’s submission in 2012, Oseni insisted that the President ought to apologise to Nigerians for misleading them.
Speaking via Twitter, Oseni wrote, “President Tinubu, once wrote a long article claiming subsidy is a scam. GEJ was excoriated and protests Orchestrated. All I will ask is, what changed. Isn’t it time to apologise for misleading Nigerians in 2012?. Also needed is a forensic audit of the NNPC.”
