APC Chieftain Caution Party Against Muslims Occupying Nigeria’s Three Top Political Offices

The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lukman Salihu, has cautioned his party against ignoring equal representation in the incoming government.

In a his interview, Salihu discussed the possibility of a Muslim emerging as the “number three” Nigerian (Senate President), and its implications if it is allowed to scale through.

Salihu said, “There are things you cannot take for granted, and as Nigerians, we know that representation is critical. We ran the 2023 election on a Muslim-Muslim ticket as an electoral strategy.”

However, we have produced the highest ranking officers in government who are Muslims. Since then, opportunists have exploited the topic to create ethnic and religious tension across the country. You cannot take this for granted.

He added, “Therefore, we are setting the stage to produce Muslims as the three ranking officers if we leave vacancies for people, including Muslims, to aspire for the Senate presidency. Some of these issues have sentimental value.”
