Anyim to PDP: Look Elsewhere, Don’t Blame me for Election Failure

Former Senate President and Secretary to Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, has expressed his displeasure with the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) move on Friday to suspend him with other chieftains of the party.

Also suspended were former Governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani; Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, etc…

The PDP said Anyim and others were suspended for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities.

But in his response, Anyim in a message on Friday, called the suspension “a cowardly act.”

He said the NWC of PDP was to blame for the party’s dismal showing in the recently held national elections.

Anyim emphasised that it was improper for the NWC to maintain a proud demeanour in the face of the party’s crushing defeat.

According to him, “It smacks of arrogance for the NWC to put up a bold face instead of displaying regret and being sober for guiding the party to such a huge loss in the 2023 general elections, thereby dashed the dreams and expectations of party members and indeed Nigerians.”

He further asserted; “It is evident that many members, including NWC members, purposefully and arrogantly worked against the party as a result of the NWC’s leadership style. Consequently, NWC’s decision to pick easy targets for suspension and fear of those who regularly demonise them is a sign of inherent cowardice.”

Anyim, also berated the party NWC for not consulting with suspended members and providing a fair hearing prior to the act, adding that the party’s leadership, under the direction of Iyorchia Ayu, forced Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as a candidate for governor upon the party members in Ebonyi State.

“In the case of Ebonyi State, the NWC imposed a candidate from the zone of the outgoing governor, in violation of the state’s zoning rules. Every attempt to persuade the NWC to see reason was met with resistance, he said.

While urging the party leadership to lift his suspension, Anyim stated that he is happy that he helped the APC win the election for governor of Ebonyi State “because that adheres to the equitable formula in Ebonyi State.”
