The Independent National Electoral Commission I(NEC), has announced the extension of voting time in some polling units in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.
The election umpire which extended the time from its usual 2:30pm to 4pm, said it was done to give room for every eligible voter to cast his or her ballot.
The extension followed series of complaints of malfunctioning machines and delay in capturing prospective voters for accreditation.
The Commission called for patience, assuring that no voter would be disinfranchised and all votes would count.
The PDP candidate, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, had called for an extension of voting time after he encountered delay in his accreditation process before he could cast his ballot.
He had expressed fear that, with the slow pace of the machine, if the time was not extended, many eligible voters would be disenfranchised.
Also, at the APGA governorship candidate unit, Prof. Charles Soludo, it was reported that the machine was not working at all as over 200 eligible voters were there waiting helplessly to cast their ballots.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige encountered similar challenge as he could not get his accreditation done in order to vote for over an hour due to the failure of the Biometric Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machine.
Ngige who was at his Alor Ward polling unit in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state during the exercise, however, put the card reader failure at 30 percent.
