Immediate past President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Melvin Amaju Pinnick has lost his re-election bid into the FIFA Executive Council

Pinnick lost because he could not muster the required votes to win a seat among the six members representing Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the FIFA Council

Pinnick secured 28 votes in the just concluded election at the 14th CAF extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.

Africa’s representatives in FIFA Executive Council who won membership seats in Wednesday’s election include Faouzi Lekjaa of Morocco, Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya, Kanizat Ibrahim of Comoros, Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi, Hamidou Djibrilla of Niger and Egypt’s Hani Abo Rida.

Surprising however, that none of the current representatives of Africa voted in Wednesday’s election into FIFA Executive Council is Anglophone

Pinnick was elected into FIFA Executive Council in March 2021. He was serving his final term in the NFF during that election.
