AFN National Trials: Amusan retains title, Ogundiran, Itsekiri win 100m women, men race

World Record holder in the Women 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan defended her title after winning the 2023 Athletic Federation of Nigeria National Trials in Benin, Edo state.

The World champion won in 12.70secs ahead of Faith Osamuyi who finished second in 13.90secs and Kemi Francis-Peterson in third place with a time of 14.14secs.

Similarly, the women 100m was won by Blessing Ogundiran in a time of 11.50secs while Faith Okwose and Ese Brume finishing second and third in time of 11.51secs and 11.52secs respectively.

The men’s final was won by Usheoritse Itsekiri in 10.02secs. Seye Ogunlewe finished second in time of 10.11secs and homeboy, Alaba Akintola finished third in 10.12secs.

Speaking after her race, Amusan  who said she was happy to win again, noted that her perfect execution gave her victory.

She said, “One thing I always do during my races is that I target that perfect execution execution and that’s what I did today,” she said.

“I started the season with injury, but now I am good to race. I will continue to get myself ready for othet races before the World Championship. I am not under pressure and I will continue to work hard to achieve my goals.”
