The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu is reported to be in a crucial Closed-door Meeting with all the national commissioners at the national headquarters of the commission in Abuja, TownCriernews.ng.com, gathered.
The meeting as further learnt is coming barely 24 hours after the electoral umpire directed its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, to stay away from all activities of the electoral umpire and the election in state.
On Sunday, Yunusa-Ari declared Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the election while the collation of results was still ongoing.
Besides, the 2022 electoral act empowers only the Returning Officer (RO) appointed by INEC to declare and announce the winner in an election.
Mele Lamido is the RO for the governorship election in Adamawa.
Minutes after Yunusa-Ari’s proclamation, INEC issued a statement declaring the announcement as “null and void” and also postponed the collation of the results.
