ACID ATTACK VICTIM DIES IN EDO

By Towncriernews

A middle aged man, Desmond Jegede Osaretin who was allegedly attacked with acid by persons suspected to be rival cult members, has reportedly died in the Edo State capital, Benin City.

Towncriernews gathered that the deceased once fled the country in the wake of the bloody cult war that erupted in Benin City in 2013. He is believed to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

The deceased was deported from Europe to Nigeria because of his failure to secure the necessary documents that would have facilitated his stay in.overseas.

Since then according to a close source, Desmond has been in hiding for fear of his life.

“He had been living in hiding since he was was deported from Europe. He feared that his life was not safe hence he kept a very low profile”, the source who does not want his name in print stated.

Unfortunately, in an attempt to come out from his hiding place on one occasion, Desmond was abducted by persons suspected to be cultists and reportedly taken to an uncompleted building where he was tortured.

The incident was said to have occurred on February 27, 2024 where acid was later poured on his right leg by his abductors after the torture.

When the incident was reported to the police, he was advised to go to the hospital for medical treatment first.

“He was in the hospital for some weeks and unfortunately, he was discharged from the hospital bed because he could not afford the hospital bill . He had no money and nobody to help him,” our sources disclosed.

According to him, “Desmond passed away on March 6, 2024 while receiving treatment in a herbal home.”

The sources also lamented the fate of Desmond’s wife, Loveth and his three children because of the palpable fear that those who tortured and poured acid on him are still be lurking around and could also attack the family to wipe out his memory from their minds.

“Right now, those who attacked Desmond and poured acid on him which eventually led to his death have neither been arrested nor their exact identities revealed. We know they are members of a cult group, they are deadly and could do anything to harm his immediate family”, the sources added

Efforts to get police reaction to the matter at the time of filing in this report was not successful as calls put across to the Edo State Police Command Spokesperson, could not connect.
