Edo State House of Assembly today passed a resolution calling on Federal Ministry of Works, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Edo State Government to as a matter of urgency fix the deplorable federal roads in the state.

The call was consequent to the matter of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Uhunmwode constituency, Mr. Osamwonyi Kayce who decried the deplorable condition of the federal roads in Edo State and the adverse effects on the people of the state, especially his constituency, which links Edo Central and Edo North senatorial districts of the state

In their separate remarks while contributing to the matter of public importance, Yekini Idaiye, Maria  Edeko, Donald Okugbe, Jonathan Ibhamawu and other members decried the deplorable condition of federal roads in Edo State, noting that the ugly situation has led to the increase cases of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

Also contributing, Sunny Ojiezele, Destiny Enabulele, Sunday Fada, and Addeh Isibor all suggested the House should carry out an on-the- spot visit to the said roads mostly on the entry and exit of the state.

They added that even as the roads are  federal roads, the state government can carry out some parliative measures and ask for a refund from the federal government.

As part of the resolution, top officials of FERMA and NEMA in Edo State are to appear on the floor of the House on July 25 to give valid explanations regarding the roads.
