Oshiomhole: I regret the day I made Obaseki Governor of Edo State

Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has expressed regret over the emergence of Godwin Obaseki as governor of the state. 

Obaseki succeeded Oshiomhole as Governor of Edo nder the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.

Oshiomhole who was also former national chairman of the APC, bemoaned the fact that Obaseki had gone to court to defend the CBN policy that had led to hunger in the nation during his recent campaign speech in Benin City. 

He claimed that witnessing Obaseki in court made him regret supporting him for governor of Edo State on that particular day. 

Oshiomhole, therefore, apologised to the people of Edo for what he perceived to be a mistake he had made. 

He said he believed that it is cruel to ignore those in need while exploiting their suffering for political gain.

“Our people have money in the bank, but they are still hungry, he said. Recently, I came across a victim of an accident who was pleading for money, but I was powerless to assist him. Although Obaseki supported the CBN policy in court, despite the wailing and lamentation of the populace, I now regret having appointed him governor. That is purely evil and shows no compassion for the populace.

I am sorry for the error; however, it is a characteristic of the human condition. Only God is aware of the start and finish of life; we are unable to know everything else. Giving a man money and power is the only way to truly get to know him. To the people of Edo, I apologise for making Obaseki governor of the state.’
